The Federal-Provincial Government Conference is a time for healthy discussion, stories and political development. It is an opportunity to debate and to make substantial steps towards resolving these monumental and divisive issues that affect all Canadians. As the Editor-in-Chief of the Eastern Eggplant, it is our role, our duty, and our mantra to report the facts of Fed-Prov and to convey this information in the most accessible and the easiest way. Have we been critical of the other provinces? Of course we have. Have they been critical of us? Of course. This is how politics is designed to work: polarising and extreme perspectives and points of view meet and compromise to form an agreement, and the press in an invaluable and indispensable aspect to this. However what the Eggplant did not think that they would have to contend with would be the constant and never-ending slander and libel produced from Summit News over the entirety of the conference this year. Them as much as any premier or minister have been responsible for trying to chain and stop the voice of the Eggplant, and the real and genuine facts coming out of the conference. The Eggplant is proud to provide simplified and easy to understand articles and information that brings our opinions across in a concise and simplified manner, but the Summit has tried to stop us from achieving this during the conference through a constant barrage of Tweets, posts and articles slandering the news produced by the Eggplant. Accusing us of "wasting paper" by simply providing delegates with copies of our newspaper, and slandering our name by saying that we simply chose it "as a joke". None of this is as important and ironic as the Summit's pathetic and hurtful comments made towards various premiers during the opening statements. The Summit described that "there was one premier though who stood out from others but in a negative way. He seemed ill-prepared and very vague when delivering his opening statement". It is farcical that the organisation so intent on pointing out our own flaws and blowing our own opinionated statements is making their own slanderous and hurtful comments. Simply because they did not put a name to their allegations does not make them innocent. It is a ridiculous statement to question the validity, courage, compassion and loyalty that premiers and leaders have towards their province, territory, government or country, especially when these leaders were elected by a majority of citizens that they represent. After the first session of committee meetings yesterday at the Federal-Provincial Conference, the provinces and territories have come together on an agreement for the future management of energy in Canada. An informal vote at the end of the session confirmed nearly unanimous support for the agreement.
To conclude the first day of Fed-Prov, Premiers and the Prime Minister answered questions from the press in a scathingly unprofessional manner. In a skating unprofessional manner, the Premier of Quebec and the Prime Minister nearly got into a fist fight over the use of language during the meetings, decision about the agenda and ideologies. These issues should have been resolved long before this conference, but apparently, the decision about these issues are the only things that these politicians can focus on instead of helping the people as they are meant to do. These people are public servants, intended to help the public. And instead, they have decided to ironically help themselves. They have zero intention of moving forward to the future of Canada, united. This unprofessionalism is why the people continue to hold this appointment in our government. Do better next time guys.
Many provinces are expressing deep concern for how the new agreement in the USMCA limits and hinders the market share of the dairy industry. First Ministers are diving into the problem and the discussing the issues with great passion to come to a solution. All provinces are mutual concern that this is a pressing matter that will greatly affect Canada as a whole. In order to work more efficiently, the honourable Prime Minister called for a 30-minute recess quite early into the meeting to personally discuss solutions and stances on this problem with each province. Many think that compensation from the government is not a long-term solution to this problem. This point was brought up numerous times and different provinces chatted with other in order to conceptualize solutions that could potentially be implemented. Finally, after a brief discussion with all delegations, the federal government came to the conclusion that this is a short-term solution, but one that needs to be implemented to compensate business adequately. The compensation that they will provide will be given out and essentially the premiers are tasked to develop groups to figure out where the money should be distributed. Overall, it seems that they have come to a consensus on this and will carry on with this pursuit in mind. Update 12/5/2018 9:16 am A final agreement has been drawn up with all parties signing. All ministers and leaders have signed this working document. Read the working document at

Crawford Passy & Ethan McCready-Branch: The Eastern Eggplant The Summit News recently posted an article on their website addressing the topic of cyber bullying, denouncing those that hide behind their screen and use it a virtual shield. Summit News has made it clear that they do not condone any actions that may be interpreted as negative or hurtful towards others. Summit news states in their article, simply titled Cyberbullying: “Saying hurtful things does not make you cool, or relevent or or even liked.” The profound irony in this article is the double standard that The Summit holds against all other parties as they too have played the villain in a series of now mostly deleted Instagram comments ridiculing the Eastern Eggplant. If you want to get on your soapbox and start preaching anti-bullying messages you shouldn’t be bullying people on your instagram account. An absolute farce. The editorial’s credibility further tanks as the frequency of grammatical and spelling mistakes increases the further you read. The audacity of Summit News’ team to slander the good name of The Eastern Eggplant whilst making a mockery of themselves is a testament to the lengths that some will go to attempt to discredit a superior news source. After the first session of committee meetings at the Federal-Provincial Conference, the provinces and territories have come together on an agreement for the future management of energy in Canada. An informal vote at the end of the session confirmed nearly unanimous support for the agreement.
The official position paper of the Deputy Prime Minister on behalf of the Federal Government looks to be a professional paper outlining their views. While it looks good on the outside (better than more than a few provincial position papers) looking closer reveals a frankly embarrassing representation of the Federal Government.
The Federal Provincial Government Conference is around the corner and many provinces and territories have expressed their positions on the important issues to be discussed in the First Minister's meeting.
Position papers are extremely important to a delegation, yet some provinces and territories have not seemed to grasp that. They range from extremely informative and formal, to frankly incompetent. A quick reference of all First Minister's topics...
